Scandia Manufacturing Co., Inc. is a 53 year old company located in southwest Baltimore City. Our primary business is the manufacture and the repair/upgrade of precision hydraulic and mechanical marine assemblies and components many of which are used in various submarine systems. Our employment level is approximately thirty consisting mainly of skilled machinists and mechanics. It is housed in a single story building with 22,000 square feet of usable space under roof.
We have a fully equipped machine shop, mechanical assembly area, finishing department, welding department, hydraulic test facility, shipping, packaging department, controlled storage areas, and quality assurance department .
We have extensive experience in many different manufacturing processes including turning, milling, grinding, welding, molding, cladding, shearing, bending and forming of all types of materials including exotic and difficult to machine alloys (such as K-500 monel, inconel, titanium, stellite, and nickel aluminum bronze) and all types of plastic. All areas are completely mercury free. Scandia is one of the few facilities in the mid- Atlantic area qualified to manufacture "SUBSAFE" components.
We have successfully completed nearly 17,000 different prime and subcontracts for many different buying activities. Most of our work is done directly for the various agencies of the Navy. We are also a supplier to the Electric Boat Corporation, a division of General Dynamics Corporation, and Northrup Grummen Newport News, the country's principal manufacturers of submarines. We have an extensive library of over 5,000 drawings allowing us to respond to most customer inquiries within 24 hours.
