Scandia has a temperature controlled, 14' x 28' paint room for applying military paints and coatings to parts and
assemblies up to 25' long in accordance with the appropriate military and specifications. Scandia also has paint
stands, adapters and fixtures to accommodate parts of a variety of shapes and sizes, and in-house abrasive blasting,
masking and other surface preparation capabilities that may be required.
Scandia has a fully qualified electroplating process which is ideal for localized,
non-structural repairs to surface damage and manufacturing defects. The process provides excellent adhesion between
the plating material and the base metal and uses the SIFCO Dalic selective electroplating system. It is not subject
to the size constraints of tank plating, making it particularly well suited to the the repair of large items such
as shafts and cylinders. Environmental considerations are minimized because the volume of hazardous materials used
in the selective electroplating process is substantially less than encountered in tank plating. The SIFCO process is in use at numerous facilities worldwide. NAVSEA installations employing
the SIFCO process include SUBBASE Bangor, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Pearl Harbor Naval
Shipyard, and Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. The process is also used by NAVAIR, the USAF, and NASA as well as
numerous commercial enterprises. Repairs are performed in accordance with
MIL-STD-865 and MIL-STD-2197, and Scandia's plating equipment operators are
SIFCO trained and certified in accordance with MIL-STD-865.
Scandia has numerous qualified subcontractors for various other surface finish requirements including chrome,
cadmium, nickel, gold and silver plating, anodizing, electropolishing, passivating and iriditing.
